I consider myself to be a conservative traditional sculptor--a traditionalist in relation to the last sixty years. I am an event maker whose creative process results in an object with emphasis on permanence.

Since the beginning of traditional Western sculpture, the process of creating sculpture has been geared toward the production of objects of visual significance. I have been strongly influenced by such modern sculptors as David Smith, Alexander Calder, Anthony Caro, Beverly Pepper, Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, Julio Gonzalez, and Pablo Picasso.

I may also be characterized as a constructivist. My work involves direct process without preconception in formal considerations of abstract and nonobjective Image-making. My personal approach to sculpture is an exploration with steel forms and their inherent relationships to space and, of course, gravity. Through a manipulation of materials, the abstract ideas become a concrete reality. The development of my direct creative process primarily uses the metal objects themselves. This is a three dimensional "drawing" done through manipulation and composition. Thus, the manipulation of mass, form, and space produces an image (object) which has symbolic, emotional, and intellectual existence. In each piece, I am not predetermined in my ends. I believe it is my ability to sense finality. Each piece has its own beginning and unique end.
